Research Interests
(i) The role of international financial institutions (IFIs) in the promotion of policy reform, especially in the CIS, based on experience over the last 10+ years
(ii) The impact of various development/transition and intervention strategies in Russia and the CIS (especially Central Asia and the Caucasus) on transition
(iii) Comparative analysis of political and economic development/transition in Russia and the CIS in comparison with the experience in Latin America, Africa, and South/Southeast Asia
(iv) The development of the SME sector in the CIS and factors which have promoted or hindered its development
(v) The relationship between ethnicity and development policy and experience, with particular reference to tribal minorities (Native Americans, Small Peoples of the North, Sami, etc.)
(vi) Alternative financing strategies and intervention programs in post-socialist economies (especially Russia and the CIS) and their results on the entrepreneurial and governmental levels

Current Projects
(i) Examining the role of international financial institution, such as the EBRD in attempting to promote economic and political transition and reform and factors shaping their policies and practices and the limmits of their impace - with particular reference to Russia and the CIS
(ii) Assessing the effectiveness of attempts by the EBRD and other IFIs to promote the SME sector, factors affecting their success or lack thereof, and local political and economic consequences of IFI intervention policy and the lack thereof (especially in Central Asia and the Caucasus)
